The Authority of the Church

But Which Church?

One thing that Catholics and Protestants agree on is the need for authority - we just disagree on the extent of that authority. All of Roman Catholicism has parishes, and all of Protestantism has churches, but the conflict lies in how far to take the authority of these two communions.

Exactly how far does spiritual authority extend? We can apply logic and the Bible to answer that question, but of course we understand that Rome will interpret the Bible's answer differently.

First, lets employ basic logic. This approach should appeal to all followers of Christ, all Christians the world over.

LOGIC

Who is greater than God? Anyone else? What did Job learn over three millenia ago? He learned that there is no one in all of existence greater than God (YHWH). So it seems logical that whatever God thinks and says is the highest authoritative word there is, right?!

But as we all know it's painfully obvious that we can't drive to Heaven and consult directly with God, so we're left with a problem - how to know God.
